The main part of the trip, was to check out some of the restaurants featured on the Food Network show “Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives”.   Here are pics of the ones we visited:

The Comet cafe in Milwaukee...known for their use of bacon. Unfortunately for us, they only serve breakfast until 3 pm on weekends, so we were limited in what we could have, but Al had a breakfast that came with meatloaf, and the meatloaf was wrapped in bacon and was delicious.

Franks Diner in Kenosha...best known for their garbage plate and homemade bread. Very good! I had an omelet and Al got the famous garbage plate (eggs, potatoes, onions, green peppers, meat, cheese, etc).

Blimpy Burger in Ann Arbor, MI...the one Al was looking forward to more than anything. Known obviously for their burgers and ordering etiquette. The burger and homemade onion rings were very good, but Al was disappointed that the woman shown on the Food Network show yelling when you messed up ordering wasnt working that day. We found it comical that no one batted an eye that we were visiting from WI.

Joes Gizzard City - known for their gizzards (duh) and fried foods. We had the fried chicken dinners which is made by boiling the chicken first until it is cooked through and then dipping the cooked chicken in batter and frying it quick. Very good, moist chicken...but I wasnt a fan of the batter.

Paradise Pup in Des Plaines, IL...best known for their cheddar burger made with Merkts cheddar spread. WONDERFUL burger...I will venture to say one of the best I had ever had. I would definitely go back and get another one someday.
