When Andrew and I came back from the farm last weekend, we also came with a ton of sweet corn to freeze. Thanks to my Grandpa who planted it, and Larry who picked it! Monday morning while I worked, Andrew and Al husked the corn for me (well, a lot of it anyway, they got too “hot and tired” to finish). When I got home, the fun began! I spent the afternoon cutting, cooking, packing 22 freezer bags of sweet corn. It was a busy day, but we will enjoy it this winter!
I saved a couple of ears of corn out for Andrew to have for dinner Monday night since he requested it (apparently he decided while at Grandma’s house that he likes corn).

While Al and I were on our Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives tour, Andrew was spending quality time with Grandma and Grandpa. He started his vacation up at the cabin with aunts/uncles/cousins and tons of fun!
Uncle Sam helping Andrew fish
Showing Andrew how to bait a hook
Driving the little jet ski
Pulling Emma on the jet ski
Enjoying some homemade doughnuts courtesy of Uncle Roger
Following the weekend at the cabin, Andrew helped Grandpa with the haying and helped Grandma freeze sweet corn.
Cleaning off the corn.
Cutting corn off of the cob (note to self, it is slow going with a butter knife!!)
Andrew also had fun playing on the swing set.
Playing on the swingset.
What a monkey!!
Andrew finished the week out by going to the cabin yet again with some friends…I don’t have any pictures from that trip, but heard it was cold and rainy so they played games and watched movies inside.

While in Milwaukee, Al and I also ventured down to the lake front. We had never been in that part of Milwaukee before and enjoyed it. It is beautiful, and cool there. Al has decided it would be a good place to live. Even though the day was warm and humid, it was comfortable near the water and at times, I wished I had a jacket! Here are some pictures:
The night we stayed near Ann Arbor, MI, we arrived to our houtel and saw that Al was “Guest of the Day”. We were upgraded to a suite and there was a small basket of goodies in the room for us.
While in Michigan, we also toured a winery in Paw Paw…
Finally, while we were in the Wisconsin Dells, we took a train ride…

The main part of the trip, was to check out some of the restaurants featured on the Food Network show “Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives”. Here are pics of the ones we visited:
The Comet cafe in Milwaukee...known for their use of bacon. Unfortunately for us, they only serve breakfast until 3 pm on weekends, so we were limited in what we could have, but Al had a breakfast that came with meatloaf, and the meatloaf was wrapped in bacon and was delicious.
Franks Diner in Kenosha...best known for their "garbage plate" and homemade bread. Very good! I had an omelet and Al got the famous garbage plate (eggs, potatoes, onions, green peppers, meat, cheese, etc).
Blimpy Burger in Ann Arbor, MI...the one Al was looking forward to more than anything. Known obviously for their burgers and ordering etiquette. The burger and homemade onion rings were very good, but Al was disappointed that the woman shown on the Food Network show yelling when you messed up ordering wasn't working that day. We found it comical that no one batted an eye that we were visiting from WI.
Joe's Gizzard City in Pottersville, MI - known for their gizzards (duh) and fried foods. We had the fried chicken dinners which is made by boiling the chicken first until it is cooked through and then dipping the cooked chicken in batter and frying it quick. Very good, moist chicken...but I wasn't a fan of the batter.
Paradise Pup in Des Plaines, IL...best known for their cheddar burger made with Merkt's cheddar spread. WONDERFUL burger...I will venture to say one of the best I had ever had. I would definitely go back and get another one someday.

Saturday we had the day to spend in Milwaukee and decided to do the stadium tour, we had never done that before. It was pretty cool. We were able to go into a suite, the pressbox, visiting teams dug out, and the Brewer’s bull pen. Here are some of the pictures I took:
